Blaine561 presents: Use Pictures On Your Blog To Boost Traffic Starting Now!

Studies show that readers are often much more interested in blogs that offer pictures. Blogs that use pictures are shown to be accessed more often than plain text blogs. If you are looking for an interesting way to boost traffic to your site, you might want to think about including pictures. Adding pictures to your blog is typically not a hard task. Most blogging programs will have areas in which you can quickly and easily add pictures. Keep in mind that if you are involved in a program such as Google Adsense, pictures won’t always correspond as well for your ads as text will however. Overall pictures provide readers with a better understanding of what you are trying to convey over your blog. If you are wondering why pictures boost traffic, consider these explanations.

Scanability

One surefire way to boost traffic on your blog is to create a blog with a high level of scanability. When your blog can be easily scanned for content, viewers are more likely to want to visit your blog again. Experts say that it takes almost 25% more energy for the eyes and brain to read words on a computer in contrast with reading them on paper. Therefore, although readers may not know it, they are likely to read much less on their computer screen. This is because it takes longer to read the words and uses up more energy.

Sixty percent of the people who read your blog will not read it word for word. They will simply scan through it looking for your main points. They almost always read the headlines and also look at the pictures. Pictures always help make your blog more easily scanned because they offer a break for the eyes and the brain. The eyes and brain will look at the picture in a different manner than they look at words on a blog. Offering the eyes and brain a “break” will allow your blog to be scanned easily. In turn, when it can be scanned easily, the readers will keep coming!

Keeping the Interest

One thing that bloggers tend to do is go on and on about one thing endlessly. It is important to limit each post to a small amount of words because if you don’t, your reader will get bored. To avoid losing a reader’s interest you can shorten posts and bring your main point to the forefront. You can also add pictures to your blog. Adding pictures is the perfect way to keep the interest of your readers. If you are talking about a lovely plant you have grown in your yard or an unusual looking dog you just adopted, consider adding a picture of it to your blog.

You would be surprised at how much more traffic you can bring to your site. People will be able to connect more with you about the subject you are posting about. They will be able to laugh with you at pictures you find funny and admire those that you treasure. You will be maintaining a “friendship” through your pictures with your readers.

If you want to add pictures to your blog, you might want to consider investing in a digital camera, if you don’t already have one. This will make putting the pictures onto your computer a much easier task to begin with. After you master this task, read the “help” information on your blogging software to understand how you need to add the pictures to your blog. Pay special attention to any size requirements or suggestions. Some blogs will only allow a specific amount of space for graphics, so you will need to be aware of that amount.

Adding pictures to your blog is a great way to allow your blog to be easily scanned and to keep the interest of your readers. When you do use pictures you will see your improvements easily. Your readers will return to see what you have to say and new visitors will be interested and entertained. By connecting with those who read your blog via pictures, you will be building lasting relationships with your readers. Just be careful about what types of pictures you add. You should not post someone on your blog without their permission so if you are posting a photo of someone you know, be sure to ask them first.

Blaine561 presents: Advertising of online auctions continues to boom.

As the industry of online auctions continues to boom, the level of competition among the retailers also keeps getting higher. This competition makes the online shops to be very alert and updated on what the other stores are selling to make sure that it would be their prices that would be most appealing for online consumers.

It is extremely easy to find and buy anything and everything online. The diversity of the online shopping marketplace is amazing because of its global aspect. You have endless possibilities. For the convenience of online shoppers, the number of discounts in internet stores have also been growing continuously.

There are literally thousands and thousands of online stores that continue to thrive and they all provide businesses and individuals with an electronic method of buying services and products. They provide the access to the widest variety of merchandise in the comfort of their offices or homes.

Here are some of the more popular online stores or marketplaces that truly provide great products offering and service.

1. eBay

eBay is probably the most famous online auction. Consumers are able to find all kinds of items – from books to gardening tools to appliances to clothing to baby products to electronic gadgets and even cars and real estate.

2. Amazon

This would be perhaps the second largest online store, which hosts both online stores and auctions. Although Amazon also offers the same products that eBay sells, their reputation mainly lies on the category of books and video entertainment.

3. Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart is an online store, which offers a wide range of merchandise as well. However, they also offer internet services, as well as questions regarding taxes at the start of the year. This makes Wal-Mart a great place to shop and get information.

Article Body:

In Jim Edwards and David Garfinkel’s tutorial “eBook Secrets Exposed”, they take you through the process of writing and marketing an eBook, so you can make money on the internet. Instead of broad generalities on writing about a particular subject, the eBook shows you the five most important steps in finding a topic for your eBook that will be targeted to a specific market. As they point out, you must identify your target audience, making sure there a lots of sites already selling to them because then you know people are willing to pay for the information.

Together they talk about how and find to identify Niche markets along with the top ten reasons or motivations for people to buy anything. There is lots of information on how to take topics and frame them into an eBook concept. Jim and David point out that your eBook will be purchased to solve your prospects painful problem or be a way to obtain a desirable solution. You must know exactly who will buy your book before you write it. They clearly take you through that process step-by-step.

Of course the main problem is always how to find the “Niche Market” that everyone always talks about. Although Jim and David do give you ideas on how to search for one, it is still a hazy realm within the internet. I would love for some internet guru to just list the markets that should be examined for creating eBooks.

With that one flaw noted, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Garfinkel do take you step-by-step through the process of writing an eBook that can be profitable, if you follow the steps they lay out for you in this eBook. So why would you take their advice? Jim Edwards has sold thousands of his eBooks online. Aside from writing eBooks, he has several CD-Rom products, videos, numerous audio tapes, software packages and a newsletter with thousands of subscribers. David Garfinkel is a copywriter and an award winning business journalist. He was the San Francisco Bureau chief for McGraw-Hill World News. More recently, he was the Editor in chief for “What’s Online” a privately circulated Internet marketing newsletter where subscribers paid $497.00 a year.

Yanik Silver said: “Jim and David have really broken the code on what it takes to make big money with almost any eBook on the Web. If that’s what you want to do I (Yanik) can only give you one piece of advice—get this resource now!”

One of the most valuable points of “eBook Secrets Exposed” is that they try to teach you how to find a hot market for your eBook and to find Joint Venture Partners that will sell your product. This is especially important if you don’t have an internet subscriber list of your own. They have even included email wording suggestions to send to potential JV partners. They further explain resale rights and how to build your own list.

“eBook Secrets Exposed” stresses how important it is to choose a topic that already has a market and has other people selling to that market. This gives you two vital opportunities: 1) the Market is established and 2) you have the potential for multiple joint venture partners. And why would you need joint venture partners? Because they already have lists of people who bought their products and they just may be interested in yours. The way to do this is mapped out in the eBook.

You will probably have to read the eBook through a few times to “get” all the points that are included, but after the second or third time you’ll have a great grasp on how to write an eBook.

There is a section in the book that goes over using pay per click advertising to get conversion numbers (number of visitors to your website that purchased your eBook). Conversion numbers are used to entice Joint Venture Partners. Although this is an option, the down side is the days of the inexpensive pay per click are over, so this could cost you some money.

This eBook is very well written and packed full of information. The only other question I would have or improvement I would like to see is how to get joint venture partners in different ways when you are just starting out. This is always a murky area.

Other than my comments on Niche Markets and finding JV Partners when you’re new, “eBook Secrets Exposed” is a very concise tutorial on how to write an eBook and market it to a targeted audience. If you want to learn quickly on how to write an eBook and you want serious information on marketing, I would give this book an 8 out of a possible 10.

Blaine561 presents: Five Inexpensive Ways to Generate Targeted Website Traffic

When most people think of traffic, what comes to mind is usually paying for banners and text links. Let’s look at some ways to drive free or inexpensive targeted website traffic.

There is one essential ingredient for generating income for any website: A steady flow of targeted website traffic. If no one goes to your site, it won’t stand a chance of generating an income. It usually takes some money to maintain an income generating site; and the old saying is also true – takes money to make money.

Have you wondered how the huge portals drive traffic to their site? Most of them are spending tons of money to drive the traffic to their sites, investing in many advertising campaigns and different forms of marketing schemes and strategies.

BUT, it doesn’t need to take a whole lot of cash to generate website traffic for your site.

Fortunately there are many ways to generate low cost website traffic without having to spend what you don’t have or can’t afford. Here you’ll find five killer ways to generate low cost but targeted website traffic.

1. Exchange Links

Many webmasters are willing to exchange links with one another so that they could produce more exposure for their sites. You’ll soon see and feel the sudden upsurge of the traffic coming in to your site from other sites.

A major prerequisite in exchanging links with other sites is having the same niche or content as the other site. They should share a common subject so that there is continuity in the providing of service and information to what interests your target traffic.

Exchanging links can also boost your chancs of getting a high ranking in some search engine results. It is common knowledge that some search engines ranks high sites that have inbound and outbound theme-related links. With a good ranking position in the search engines, you will generate more traffic in your website without the high costs.

2. Participate in Traffic Exchanges

This is like exchanging links but on a different higher level. This may cost a bit more than exchanging or trading links but could be made cheaper because you get to earn credits. You can use those credits when viewing others traffic, while you earn credits when someone views yours.

Traffic exchange services are the viewing of another’s site or page. This is done vice versa where a site can use your sites contents and so can you to his or her site. You both benefit from each others efforts to generate traffic. The other sites visitors can go to your pages and know more about your site as well as theirs. Once again the public awareness of your sites existence is boosted.

3. Write and Submit Informative Articles

There are many e-zines and online encyclopedias in the internet which provides free space for articles to be submitted. If you want to save costs, you can do the articles yourself. There are many freelance writers who are willing to write for you for a small fee, but to save money, it is wise to do those articles yourself.

Write articles that are themed along with the niche of your site. Write something that you have expertise on so that when they read it, they can feel your knowledge about the subject and will be eager to go to your site. Write articles that produce tips and guidelines to the subject or niche your site has.

Include a resource box at the end of your article that can link them to your site. Write a little about yourself and your site. If you provide a light, information-laden and interesting article, they will go to your site for more.

4. Start Your Own Newsletter.

This may sound like hard work because of all the articles you may need to use to build a newsletter but on the contrary, this is not so. There are many writers and sites that are willing to provide free articles as long as they can get their name in on your newsletter. This will also provide free advertising for them as well.

As your newsletter grows in popularity, you can profit again and again form repeat loyal visitors.

5. Join Online Communities and Forums

This only requires your time and nothing else. You can share your knowledge and expertise with many online communities as well as your website. You can get free advertising when you go to forums that have the same subject or niche with your site.

Share your opinions and let them see how knowledgeable you are with the subject. As you build your reputation, you also build the reputation of your site, making it a reputable and honest business that could be frequented and trusted by many people.

As you can see targeted website traffic does not need to expensive to be effective. Using the above methods steadily and consistently will have a great effect on your sites profits over time.

Now you can understand why there’s a growing interest in traffic. When people start looking for more information about traffic, you’ll be in a position to meet their needs.

Blaine561 presents: Pay Per Click Search Engine Marketing – Starting A Campaign

Pay per click advertising is an on-going and growing arsenal for all entrepreneurs world wide. Whether your have a small business or a large business, buying a search engine placement is definitely the way to go.

Pay per click advertising is an on-going and growing arsenal for all entrepreneurs world wide. Whether your have a small business or a large business, buying a search engine placement is definitely the way to go.

Why fight a never ending battle against some of the worlds best webmasters who have years of experience and are dedicated to search engine placement 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Don’t fight the battle, win the battle by utilizing pay per click search engine marketing!

1st Thing 1st: Testing Your Market Place…

If you’ve never attempted a pay per click campaign, a good idea is to start with a small budget in order to test your market place.

The key is to find what your potential customers are searching for. There’s no better place to test that out by going to Google. Google allows you to pay for a small ad off to the right within a small green box.

Huh? If you’ve never seen these small ads within Google, go to: www.google.com

If you type in “web design” in google’s search engine, you will no doubt get the regular results on the left, as well as a list of small ads off to the right within small green boxes.

Underneath the small green boxes, you will see a link that says; “Place your ad here”. Another route is by going here: http://adwords.google.com

Please do yourself a favor and dedicate yourself to a small ad within Google in order to learn the ropes and utilize an inexpensive way to some fabulous research information.

You’ll want to determine how much you are willing to pay for 1 month. It could be as low as $20, but I recommend starting out with $50.00 to start your 1st campaign.

Try coming up with an ad that’s catchy and to the point!

Ex. Legal Services

Get A FREE Consultation!

Legal Services in Ontario

http://www.legalservices.com

After that you need to predetermine the “Key Phrases” you think that your potential clients are typing in Google when it comes to your product or service.

EX. “Legal Services”.

When Google asks you to enter your key words or phrases, you might want to try entering something like this….

1. Legal Services

2. Lawyers in Ontario

3. Law Services

4. Lawyer Services

5. Lawyer Services in Ontario

Try using as many as you can think of… Google will later show you the most popular key phrases compared to the key phrases that don’t work at all.

Please Note: I am using Goggles Adwords as an example because of how easy it is to log into your account at any time and check to see how many people have seen your ad and how many people have actually clicked on your ad to visit your site.

Once you’ve entered your “Key Words & Phrases” now you’re going to be asked to enter the maximum amount of money you want to pay every time someone clicks on your ad.

Ex. If someone searches “Legal Services”, you enter that you will pay a maximum of 0.07cts per click.

This will give you a pre-qualified potential client for 0.07cts.

Let’s move on a little now..

Assuming that your ad is all set up and already on the way. Now you can return to Google, log into your account and see how your “Key Words & Key Phrases” are performing with your campaign.

It might read something like this….

1. Legal Services ———- Ad was viewed 2000 times ————- Clicked on 100 times.

2. Lawyers in Ontario —– Ad was viewed 4560 times ————- Clicked on 9 times.

Now you will get a much better understanding at what your potential clients are searching for and what they are actually clicking on.

KEY NOTE: Try to experiment with this as much as possible and as quickly as possible so you can really begin your Pay Per Click Search Engine Marketing.

Are you ready???

Now that you have your predetermined key words of phrases you want to use, you can now start looking into pay per click campaigns. Per per click search engines are a little different compared to the Google Adwords because instead of getting a small ad off to the right you are now going to bid on actual search engine placements.

1st thing you want to do is to visit a pay per click search engine. For instance, you might want to visit: www.goto.com or www.lycos.com or any other pay per click search engine online and test your new key words to determine what the top placements are paying for those spots.

Ex. Let’s use “Lawyer Services” again, type in that phrase in any ppc search engine and look at the top placements! It should read something like this…

5) Legal Services.com

Our firm is dedicated to helping you win your case each and every time.

Cost: $0.10

The key is to look at the cost. The cost is what “Legal Services.com” was willing to pay for the 5th search engine placement.

And there you go, you now have the basic knowledge to plan out a pay per click campaign. Always remember to lay out how much you are willing to commit to your search engine campaign and keep yourself to it.

I recommend to all my clients to at least master the Google Adword program. Goggles search engine is the #1 hotspot on the internet for potential clients, why not get a slice of the pie!

Blaine561 presents: How to increase traffic through Social Networking sites?

Nowadays, Social networking sites popularity is increasing day by day like facebook, myspace, orkut, digg etc…., we can say social networking is one of the best and free ways for increase traffic on our site. Social networking is important in blogging and if you can’t do social networking then it’s a rare chance that you’ll be successful in blogging. Leaving comments and trackbacks is part of social networking. Apart from that is part of one of the popular Social news networks.

(1). Increase traffic through Friends

Friends are the heart of the social networking attitude, and when promoting content this can be a valuable tool in viral marketing. The more friends you have in your network, the more visibility you will have when promoting.

(2). Increase traffic through Blogs

Blogs are one more great way to spread the word, most blogs allow you to post nameless comments. I use these blogs to post a comment then I include a link to one of my sites. I achieve a free back link for simply commenting on a story.

(3). Increase traffic through Picture Perfect

You may not understand it, but by passing on uploading your picture, you are also passing on an opportunity to get more people clicking on your articles. Why? Well, for one, it is known that spammers never take the time to upload a picture. Second, it is called ’social’ networking and ’social’ bookmarking sites. If you are trying to be ’social’ then you should put a face to your name.

(4). Increase traffic through Profile Pages

If you are a keen online social network’s, you will have a pimped out profile page. Here are a few examples of how you can increase visibility to your content. On my profile pages at myspace.com, digg.com, linkedin.com, stumbledupon.com and yahoo.com I have links to all my social network profiles & personal projects. This does 2 things; increases my link back total to my projects and shifts visitors to my other profile pages so I get more friends! to promote your RSS feeds via your profile pages, the service displays recent RSS activity and the service is free. Another service you find interesting is myspacestats.net myspacestats.net, a service that tracks and stores your social networking traffic. The service simply puts an image on your profile and counts the total amount of visitors per day, month and year.

(5). Increase traffic through bulletin

Bulletins use your friends list, basically the more friends you have the more views your bulletins receive. Common sense! Some people use bulletins way to much and if I grasp these spammers they get deleted ASAP. So my advice is to use this angle a few times a month and keep them simple, this raw move toward keeps the bulletins friendly and not to over bearing.

(6). Increase traffic through Content

Nothing is more important than content. If you are a good writer and you write about interesting topics, you are going to do well on the social networking sites. People seem to like top 10 lists, top 20 lists, etc. I suggest that you look at digg.com to see what gets the most diggs. I have failed multiple times on getting a post digged or stumbled, even when I thought that it was the best article ever. You don’t always win.

(7) Increase traffic through clipart and screensavers

If you have some skills in this direction then try creating clipart and screensavers. Offering these for free is also a good way to get more traffic.

Finally, make sure that you are part of a few of the more popular social networking websites. These memberships will be only destined to build your own network and not of overt marketing. As your social network grows you can invite your contacts to join you on the social networking website. This should start a sequence reaction that will get them inviting their own contacts and so on. Finally your network will grow to a point where it becomes truly helpful.

Blaine561 presents: Fighting Click Fraud In google Adwords

Click fraud is a very real concern for anybody who is doing CPC marketing. Click fraud involves any artificially created click on your ad. A human being can create these clicks, or a software program called a clickbot can create them.

These clicks unfortunately cost you money.

The hard part is identifying click fraud. In order to do this you need to constantly monitor your campaigns, keeping a watchful eye out for any abnormalities. You need to pay attention to your campaign’s established trends and watch for any divergence in those trends. For example, suppose you have an Adgroup that averages an 8% CTR. Minor variations to this CTR are normal and expected. What happens, however, if this Adgroup spikes to a 15% CTR without warning? What do you do?

The first thing you need to do in such a case is check to see if there are any logical reasons for this spike. For example, was there some media coverage on your industry that would cause an increase in searches for your keywords? There can be perfectly reasonable explanations for unexpected traffic spikes. Did you experience an increase in sales? This is another good indicator of real traffic. If your sales correspond to your traffic everything should be fine.

If the traffic still seems fraudulent you need to gather as much information as possible on the incident. Record the time period when it happened and what keywords were affected. Check your server logs and look for any suspicious looking IP addresses or user agents. Once you have collected all relevant information you need to contact Google support and allow them to take over the investigation. They will want access to your server logs and any other pertinent information. They are very good at what they do, and you need to be patient as their investigation can take some time.

For example, at one point I had gone away on a camping trip and had no access to a computer, or an Internet connection to monitor my campaigns. When I returned I found the costs and traffic associated with one campaign had spiked dramatically, costing me several thousand dollars. I instantly knew that a click bot hit me. I contacted Google and an investigation was started. A few months later the investigation was concluded and it was verified that I was the victim of click fraud. I was reimbursed for all the money the click fraud had cost me and life went on.

If you spot click fraud Google is very competent with their investigation and they will reimburse you if click fraud is indeed proven. If it is determined that click fraud did not occur, you will be given an explanation describing how this was determined.

There are many different reasons for click fraud. The most common is for financial gain. This usually occurs on the content network. Here people get paid every time someone clicks on a Google Adsense ad on their site. Some people get greedy and try generating artificial clicks in order to make more money. Sometimes they try to click on the ads themselves, but this doesn’t work well because of the repetitive IP address.

Software programs called click bots might be used. These programs use multiple proxy servers to beat the repetitive IP problem, and can also randomize behaviour to make the traffic seem more natural. These programs vary in sophistication and are harder to spot.

In the recent past it was discovered that there are companies in places like India, where labour is very cheap, which use real people to click on ads. These people are spread out in different locations making the IP addresses all different and non-proxy. Moreover, they are real humans so their actions can seem more natural. This scheme can also be difficult to spot.

Other reasons for click fraud include malicious competitors. In this case a competitor wants you to either stop advertising on a keyword, or lower your bid. This often happens as a result of bidding wars. It also often takes place on the actual search pages. Any of the various methods of generating artificial clicks can be used, and the result is still the same. Increased costs.

Blaine561 presents: The Real Secret to Earning Serious Cash selling eBooks

The ebook market is hands-down one of the most profitable market to enter. Think about it – NO inventory, NO shipping, INSTANT deliveries and so many other advantages makes this industry one of the fastest growing markets available.

So what is the problem? The problem is that many of the businesses in the ebook market have ecommerce websites which sell a wide range of these ebooks. Many of these ebooks are old and out of date and to compensate for this problem, the ebooks are sold at low prices. To successfully compete, new businesses must sell these same ebooks at even lower prices and will therefore make little money. The best marketing tip is to start an ecommerce niche ebook business. This will help to differentiate your business from the other ones in the market.

What is a niche?

A niche is a small, specialised area within a market. The main thing to remember when starting your niche ebook business is to target a narrow customer base because this is your key to success. The idea here is to find a niche and then you either buy or create ebooks related to that niche area. For example, you could be a stay-at-home mom looking to start a home business. A good niche idea would be to start a business selling ebooks about babies. You could write your own ebooks or buy best-selling ebooks about babies and sell them to new mothers online. Narrowing the ebook market in this way will make you seem more of an expert in your field.

Once you have a list of possible niche ideas, you should do a lot of research. This is important even if you don’t intend to write your own ebook because you will need to understand your market in order to successfully promote your business. Great places to gather information are online forums and websites related to your niche idea and ask questions about your niche idea. Find articles and other ebooks related to your topic. Research, Research and Research all ideas.

The next step is to narrow the list down to the ones you have enough information on. You must now determine whether there is actually a market for your chosem ideas i.e. whether there is enough customer demand. If you are starting a profit-making business you need enough people to buy your product so that you can make a profit. A great online resource to use is Nichebot (www.nichebot.com). This online keyword tool is great for helping to find out how many people are particularly interested in a particular keyword or keyphrase. You enter your keyword or keyphrase and you will get a list of related terms people searched for in the last month. As part of the results, you will also get the number of times people searched for your term and the related terms. This can be taken as a measure of demand.

You then need to determine the level of supply in the market. You do this by going to a search engine such as www.google.com and entering any of your keywords which had high demand. The number of search results found should be taken as supply. You should try to focus on niches which have relatively low supply. But, one important point to remember here is that some competition is good. Competition means that profit exists within that niche otherwise there would be no businesses operating there. Furthermore, competition means that there will be partners around for you to use in affiliate and joint venture programs. Also, you will be able to advertise on their sites and forums to seek traffic to your site. So supply should be low but it should not be non-existent. It should be low relative to consumer demand.

The niche idea which has relatively high customer demand and relatively low supply should be your new niche. U can now start writing your ebook. Once this is done, develop your website. If you are a beginner and you don’t know how to do this then go to

http://www.w3schools.com.

Many of these steps to building a successful niche business such as research and web building, if done probably, can take a long time to do. So why not go to www.ebookpackagedeals.com to find some quality ready made niche ebook packages. These packages also include free templates that you could use to sell the ebooks.

Once you start selling and gaining some revenue, you can then start writing and publishing your own ebooks. You can develop your niche business even further by joining affiliate programs and joint venture schemes to sell other peoples products. You can establish your business so that when anybody wants some information from your niche market they would think about you first.

Blaine561 presents: Gone Phishing and your the fish!

Believe it or not, there are rascals inhabiting this very planet, their consequence emanates from under the woodwork everywhere, and arrives without warning at your inbox.

These communiqués, in the form of emails, are simply the result of people who have gone “phishing,” not to be confused with the term “gone fishing,” a practice no one seems to object to except maybe the fish. Still these rogues are after a fish, and the fish my friend is you!

Phishing employs both technical schemes and reliance on your lack of caution, to gain your personal identity and financial information data.

The way they hook their victim is through a cloaked link (the bait) leading their unsuspecting fish, that’s you, to a counterfeit website carefully designed to trick their catch (you) into divulging private financial data such as, credit card numbers, usernames, passwords, social security numbers, and so forth.

These traps are intermingled with everyday spam, or whatever passes as spam, littering your inbox. In reality, ordinary spam is merely bothersome at worst, requiring its disposal through excessive use of the delete key, yet phishing can be far more destructive.

These deceptive ploys fraught with harmful intentions are daily appearing in mail boxes everywhere, arriving from outside and inside the country highlighting the Internets lack of policing and our peril.

An email message can be a useful and handy tool, yet it’s tailor-made for this type of villain. The reminder you receive can appear as a genuine concern from a business you are doing commerce with, and have already entrusted your personal information.

The subject line of these bogus emails reads something like, “We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account,” then sets the hook by declaring only “good intentions” by stating, “To ensure your account is not compromised, please click the link below and confirm your identity.”

Or, the phony email might assert that, “During our regular verification of accounts we couldn’t verify your information.” This phrase is calculated to put you into a panic, then comes the bait, please click here to update and verify your information.” And, if you do, they win!

And yes, I am not too proud to admit a close friend of mine, in his newbie days, fell prey to this blatant deception. Come to think of it, his name and description is curiously the same as mine. Oh well, I know it couldn’t have been me, as I wouldn’t fall for such a ruse. Then again!

Following this incident, I have developed a simple rule, I never respond through any email allegedly from anyone I’m doing business with, regardless of my lack of suspicion. Where I feel it’s of proper concern, I go directly through my browser to the site, enter and check it out.

This advice I offer you like a brother, never react directly with any message that poses a serious concern and provides a “convenient” link for you to deposit your critical information. It could be the most costly mistake of your life.

While there are sites where you can forward these poison pills, your only real protection, is you. Don’t rely on any company, notwithstanding their plausible concerns, for in the end, you retain the power of the delete button, use it wisely.

By the bye, phishing is often referred to as “spoofing,” what a harmless expression. As if, “sure I stole your identity, cleaned out your bank account, left you with huge financial losses to overcome, but hey, I was only spoofing!”
